Cam Skattebo is one of the most talented running backs in the NFL. Having only joined as a rookie with the New York Giants in the 2025 season, he has already shown what he is capable of. Unfortunately for him and the franchise, an injury caused his first season to end early.
Ahead of the next season, there is already much expectation from the young player. His coach has now expressed disappointment for one of his recent actions.
John Harbaugh expresses disappointment over Cam Skattebo’s failed backflip
Skattebo recently faced much criticism after a failed backflip attempt during an appearance at WWE’s Fanatics Fest in New York. The failed move caused him to land in an awkward manner, though he quickly got up with no trouble. As the player is still recovering from a severe 2025 ankle injury, many felt that it was an irresponsible decision from him to undertake such a dangerous move.
His season-ending injury came in Week 8 of the 2025 season against the Philadelphia Eagles, and required emergency surgery. Many fans and analysts criticized him for the move, with Skip Bayless calling for Giants head coach John Harbaugh to punish the player.
After some time, Harbaugh has finally responded to his player’s action. In an appearance on the “Bleav in Giants” podcast, he addressed Skattebo’s backflip attempt, but in a different manner. He said humorously,”My reaction when I saw it on my phone? My reaction was, I haven’t talked to him yet, I’m going to talk to him, I’m sure, my reaction was this: Dude, at least stick. You know what I mean? Land the thing if you’re gonna do it.”
It seems that the Giants head coach was not that annoyed by Skattebo’s risky action. The player himself has addressed the backflip, and said that he will keep doing it. Harbaugh is already looking forward to seeing his player in practice.
John Harbaugh positive about Cam Skattebo’s return
Skattebo is recovering quite well from his injury, and is working towards getting fully fit. Harbaugh is also expecting him to join the Giants practice sessions. He said, “Skat’s going to be ready to go. He’s been working super hard. He’s really been training like crazy. His mind is on camp. He’s healthy. He’s ready to roll, and I can’t wait to see him at practice.”
He also added that they agreed on no more backflips, “I did mention maybe no back flips out here [at minicamp]. We agreed.” Harbaugh will depend on the running back a lot, as he will be crucial to the whole team’s success.
Cam Skattebo will now work on recovering, and will target a return to the field ahead of the next season.
