Investigators received a search warrant Tuesday at the North Point gas station on Highway 41 North in Springfield.

The sheriff's office says investigators found and seized numerous illegal kratom products from the trunk of a vehicle belonging to Vamshidhar Reddy Donapati, 31, from Portland.

Detectives said Donapati, an employee of the gas station, was allegedly selling kratom from the trunk of his vehicle in the parking lot to keep the products out of sight inside the store.

Donapati was arrested and charged with possession of kratom with intent to sell, a Class C felony under Tennessee law.

The sheriff’s office said additional felony charges related to the alleged sale and delivery of kratom, as well as money laundering, are expected to be presented to a Robertson County grand jury.

Donapati remained in the Robertson County Detention Facility Tuesday on a $50,000 bond.
