The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is the true successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. When folded, it resembles the form factor of a regular slab phone. When unfolded, it reveals a massive square-ish inner display, just like every other Galaxy Z Fold since 2019, when Samsung launched the foldable revolution.
Samsung isn't slapping the Ultra moniker on its new foldable just to differentiate it from its wider-than-taller sibling (the new Galaxy Z Fold 8), though.
This foldable really is Ultra!
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra in a nutshell:

Display and design
Like any other Ultra, the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra focuses heavily on the display(s). Here we have two of those: a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED outer screen and a massive 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED display on the inside.
Both the top and inner displays offer 422 ppi pixel density, which means that they'll be sharp, which is always great for details. Also both displays offer the obligatory 120Hz adaptive refresh rate that provides buttery smooth visuals while keeping the battery life preserved.
Although you've got a mini tablet in your pocket, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra weighs 215 grams. This is a bit more than the iPhone 17 Pro and a bit less than the iPhone 17 Pro Max – two non-folding flagships that offer only a single display!
If you were worried about hefty, bulky foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra won't let you down, as it's Samsung's thinnest Galaxy Z phone yet.
Its chassis is just 4.1 mm thick. True, its successor, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, came in at 4.2 mm, but the USB-C port needs to stay in the chassis, so foldables need to conform with the objective reality.
The camera setup
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has one massive (literally) advantage over any high-end camera phone: by being a foldable, it offers a large, almost tablet-sized display. And this really helps when it comes to photo editing on the go!
You're getting a total of five cameras with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra:

True, I'd be happier to see another 50 MP sensor for the dedicated telephoto. But at least the 12 MP ultra-wide of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is upgraded to 50 MP on the new model.
Samsung highlights that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will capture better photos than before at night and in low light thanks to the improved Nightography. That's always a big plus, as many phones struggle in sub-optimal lighting conditions.
The phone can record 8K videos using the new APV format, making it easier to produce high-quality content and edit it later. It also includes Cine LUT, which helps users give their videos a more cinematic look without leaving the phone.
Foldables can't outdo slab flagships like the Oppo Find X9 Ultra when it comes to photography and videography, but they're a much tougher rival nowadays.
Performance, memory and battery
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is made to handle practically anything you throw at it without hiccups – from multitasking and content creation to AI workflows.
Under the hood, there's the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset. This is the same silicon you'll find on the Galaxy S26 Ultra and everybody knows this phone is a beast, so the new foldable isn't lagging at all.

In terms of battery, we have a 5,000 mAh capacity silicon-carbon battery cell with a new dual-path charging architecture that supports 45 W fast charging and helps distribute power more efficiently across the system.
The adoption of the silicon-carbon battery tech is great news and this is how the Z Fold 8 Ultra manages to stay so thin. Maybe next year we'll get a 6,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery?
Also, the phone comes with an expanded graphite cooling structure, which should result in improved thermal conductivity and better heat dissipation.
With the 45W adapter, you should be able to get almost 70% of battery in about 30 minutes. Not bad, but the Honor Magic V6 has a cell with a 6,660 mAh capacity and supports up to 80W charging speeds. Samsung needs to step up its game!
In terms of RAM and storage, you can choose from the following variants:

・12 GB RAM, 512 GB internal storage
・12 GB RAM, 256 GB internal storage
No 128 GB storage option, but it's 2026 and 256 GB is the flagship baseline nowadays.
AI, software, features, colors
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra comes with One UI 9 (based on the latest Android 17) out of the box, so you'll have those bragging rights while all your friends stay on Android 16 for weeks and months ahead.

More AI features
Samsung is expanding Galaxy AI with smarter everyday features. Now Brief delivers personalized updates, while Now Nudge suggests helpful actions like checking your calendar or saving an address during conversations. Gemini now works across more than 40 apps and services, and the new Gemini Notebook keeps notes, photos and documents together. Galaxy AI also integrates more closely with Galaxy wearables.
On the security side, Samsung continues to rely on Knox and Knox Vault to protect user data, while One UI 9 adds an AI Activity dashboard and new privacy alerts. Existing features such as Auto Blocker, Theft Protection, Private Sharing and Secure Wi-Fi remain part of the package.
