The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra may technically be the superior foldable, but it's the Fold 8 that's generating the most buzz. While the Ultra will pack beefier specs into a thinner body, the Fold 8's stockier design will give it a different vibe. Samsung has been teasing the Fold 8, and it has just released a new teaser.
Almost broke cover
Between showcasing its design philosophy and having a brand ambassador parade the device around, Samsung has been building excitement for the Fold 8.
Today, leaker Ice Universe shared a new poster showing a celebrity holding the device.
Unmistakably Fold 8
The Fold 8 reportedly has a passport-style design and will be easy to tell apart from the tall and thin Fold 8 Ultra.
In the new marketing material, we see a device that barely extends beyond the holder's palm while requiring a noticeably wider grip. No other Samsung device fits that description.
One of its two rear cameras is also visible, but the poster keeps the rest under wraps.
Another sighting
T-Mobile has apparently also started running ads touting the Fold 8 as a pocket-sized powerhouse.
Whether customers will want to buy it through T-Mobile after the carrier's recent $35 fee is another question.
Wide foldables are in
From the original Google Pixel Fold to the Microsoft Surface Duo, early attempts at compact, wide foldables didn't really catch on.
Fast-forward to today, and the form factor is suddenly in vogue. Apple can probably be credited for that, but Huawei beat everyone to the punch.
Regardless of who had the idea first, customers may finally warm up to this design this year.
Samsung certainly thinks so. While initial reports suggested an even split in production targets, Samsung has reportedly increased Galaxy Z Fold 8 production to 2.8 million units, leaving the Ultra at 2 million units.
While these plans might shift based on customer response, wide foldables are reigning supreme for now.
