SAG (Smart Analytics Global) has released a new smartphone market report, and this time around it’s focusing on foldables. This is a report for Q2 2026, as it reveals which companies grew, which did not, and who’s in the lead, amongst other things.
The global smartphone market performed better than expected
Let’s first say that the global smartphone shipments declined just 2% YoY, to 3.4 million units in Q2 2026. That is a much better result than what we’ve seen on the broader smartphone market. According to SAG, global smartphone shipments declined 8% in Q2 2025, and they’ll likely drop 12% for full-year 2026.
Now, as far as foldable smartphone shipments are concerned, Huawei is still in ht elead. The company claimed 47.7% of the market in Q2 2026, based on the successful sales of the Pura X Max and continued strong demand for the Mate X7 and Pura X. Huawei managed to grow 3.5% YoY.
Samsung’s foldable growth is impressive, but not the most impressive this time around
Samsung is second with 15.2% of the global foldable smartphone market. The company did manage to grow 24.9% YoY, which is a considerable growth, needless to say. Strong demand for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 played a huge part in that, along with stable pricing for entry-level configurations.
Lenovo (Motorola included) claimed third place on the list, with 12.9% of the smartphone market. The company’s shipments did not grow compared to Q2 2025, though. Lenovo dropped 27.7% YoY, which is the worst result out of the top 5 companies.
HONOR managed to achieve an 82.2% increase in sales
HONOR, on the other hand, marked the biggest growth here, with an 82.2% increase compared to Q2 2025. HONOR claimed 12.2% of the foldable smartphone market.
OPPO closes out the top 5 companies when it comes to foldable smartphones. OPPO claims 6.2% of the market, with no growth and no decline YoY.
When it comes to all other foldable smartphone companies, they claimed only 5.8% of the market, which is what’s left. Their shipments, collectively, declined by 55.7% YoY.
Samsung is expected to reclaim the crown moving forward
SAG expects Samsung to reclaim global foldable smartphone market leadership in Q3 2026. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra’s arrival has been mentioned as the main reason for that.
