Google has announced the official release date of its Pixel 11 series. All four models of the lineup, the vanilla Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and the Pixel 11 Fold, would be unveiled on 12th August in New York City. While it will be interesting to see how each variant performs in the market, there's one particular model our readers seem most interested in buying.
There's a clear winner
When Google made the release date of its upcoming smartphone lineup official through an X post, my colleague and friend Alan covered it in one of his stories. It had a poll where he asked our readers about the Pixel 11 model that they are most excited about. Interestingly, I was hoping that the standard Pixel 11 would receive the maximum number of votes.
The voting results are out, and I am totally surprised by the numbers. At the time of writing, the poll has received exactly 1002 votes, with 44.51% of our readers saying that they are looking forward to buying the Pixel 11 Pro XL. The vanilla variant, which I was expecting to win, received 14.67% of the votes.
The Pro model came second with 33.33% of the votes, whereas our readers seem least interested in the foldable from Google as it has received only 7.49% of the votes. This result kind of makes it clear that most prospective Pixel buyers don't simply want to get into Google's upcoming smartphone lineup by buying its most affordable variant; instead, it appears that they are ready to spend more out of their pockets to get the most feature-packed device of the Pixel 11 series.
What's special about the Pixel 11 Pro XL?
Each smartphone of a particular Pixel series has its own specialty. For instance, the major differences between the Pixel 10 and the Pixel 10 Pro lie in the camera, display, and memory departments, where the Pro model delivers better numbers in all three areas. When it comes to the difference between the Pro and Pro XL, the latter usually offers a bigger display and battery than the former.
The same is most likely going to be the case this year as well. While the exact battery capacity is unknown, the display size is believed to be 6.8 inches. In comparison, the Pro model could launch with a 6.3-inch display along with a 4850 mAh battery. Other than these, most other specifications that matter would most likely remain the same between the two devices.
Should you really get a Pixel 11 Pro XL?
According to everything that has leaked so far about the phone, not much is changing if you compare it with the current XL model. It's expected to have the same camera, RAM, storage, IP rating, and charging capacity.
The only things that are reported to see an upgrade are the battery and the processor. As mentioned above, the exact battery numbers are still unknown; however, the phone is going to be powered by the Tensor G6 chip. Google could also ship the device with the latest Vulkan version, which could eventually help improve gaming performance, which has been one of the major concerns with Pixel phones recently.
When it comes to what Pixel fans want… well, the demands seem different for different users. A Redditor mentioned that they want the upcoming XL variant to have better cameras, a smaller bezels, faster charging, an under-display face ID, and a new modem. Another user demands better on-device video stabilization and low-light performance.
I, personally, think that if you have the Pixel 10 Pro XL, then getting its upcoming successor wouldn't make much sense unless you're someone who loves upgrading every year. However, if you own the Pixel 9 Pro XL or are someone who is thinking of getting a Pixel for the first time, then you should definitely make the purchase.
Will Google fulfill users' wishes?
Based on everything that has surfaced about the Pixel 11 Pro XL, it seems that most of the wishes that users have from Google aren't going to be fulfilled. But let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that the tech giant surprises us all with some incredible upgrades to justify the expected price increase of its upcoming phones.
