Gable Steveson returns to wrestling at RAF 12 against Cassioppi

Gable Steveson will return to freestyle wrestling next month when he faces former college opponent Anthony Cassioppi at RAF 12.

The event takes place Aug. 22 at Rocket Arena in Cleveland and marks the one-year anniversary of Real American Fighting, according to MMA Fighting. Steveson, who won Olympic gold and made his UFC debut with a first-round knockout of Elisha Ellison at UFC 329 earlier this month, competed at RAF 9 in May where he secured a technical fall victory over Alexandr Romanov, a former UFC and PFL heavyweight.

Steveson holds edge in head-to-head record

The 26-year-old has beaten Cassioppi five times previously in their collegiate matchups. Cassioppi enters off his first RAF win, a points decision over Mostafa Elders at RAF 11 on Saturday. His earlier RAF appearances came against elite competition in Shamil Sharipov and Akhmed Tazhudinov.

RAF 12 is headlined by Jordan Borroughs against UFC welterweight Sean Brady. The co-main event features Colby Covington taking on Belal Muhammad for the promotion's cruiserweight crossover title.
