Former five-star Texas A&M wide receiver Demond Demas is getting another opportunity at the college level. Demas announced on Instagram that he has committed to Virginia State University, giving the CIAA contender a former blue-chip recruit with SEC experience.

“It ain’t about me; it’s bout my kids. This is a legacy,” he said in the Instagram caption announcing his commitment on Monday.

The 6-foot-3 receiver entered college as one of the nation’s most highly touted prospects. He was rated as a five-star recruit by both 247Sports and Rivals in the 2020 recruiting class, earned Army All-American honors and finished among the top six overall prospects in Texas.

Demas established himself as one of the country’s most explosive receivers during his junior season at Tomball High School. In 2018, he hauled in 50 receptions for 1,574 yards and 23 touchdowns while also returning both a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns.

Although a transfer ruling prevented him from playing during his senior season, his combination of size, speed and athleticism made him one of the nation’s most coveted recruits before he ultimately signed with Texas A&M.

Demas appeared in four games as a true freshman during the 2020 season before taking on a larger role in 2021, playing in 10 games with six starts. His breakout performance came against New Mexico, where he turned two receptions into 100 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown.

He also contributed in several marquee SEC contests, catching two passes during Texas A&M’s upset of No. 1 Alabama before posting a career-high five receptions against Ole Miss. Demas finished his Aggies career with 15 receptions for 235 yards and one touchdown before a late-season injury ended his 2021 campaign.

His time at Texas A&M came to an end in 2022 following an arrest on allegations of assault and family violence. He later entered the transfer portal and did not play during the 2022 season.

When discussing the situation with 247Sports, Demas accepted responsibility for his actions.

“No one is perfect,” Demas said at the time. “But I do take responsibility for not being in full control of my actions and the energy around me that led to the particular situations and distractions.”

Demas enrolled at Garden City Community College in 2023 but did not record any offensive statistics. He was not on a roster during the 2024 or 2025 seasons. Now, he joins a Virginia State program that has consistently remained in the CIAA championship conversation under head coach Henry Frazier III.

The Trojans finished the 2025 season with a 6-4 overall record and a 4-3 mark in conference play while fielding one of the league’s most explosive offenses. Virginia State averaged 27.5 points per game while ranking among the CIAA’s top passing attacks at 265.4 passing yards per game. The Trojans also finished second in the conference in total offense, averaging 420.6 yards per contest.

Adding a player with Demas’ pedigree gives Virginia State another intriguing weapon as it looks to compete for a CIAA championship in 2026.
