In November 2026, the ballot for the National Baseball Hall of Fame will be released for the class of 2027. In 2026, only Carlos Beltran and Andruw Jones were elected to the Hall of Fame. Meanwhile, only one first-time candidate received over five percent of the vote, and that was Cole Hamels.
In 2027, there could be five or more first-time candidates for the Hall of Fame, and one former All-Star, Joey Votto, believes former San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey should get in on the first ballot, according to MLB Now.
“When I tune in to the Hall of Fame event, I want to look up at the stage and know every single person up there,” Votto said. “So for me when it comes to this potential list, Buster Posey is the clear standout.”

Posey had a career .302 batting average and a .372 on-base percentage. He has 1,500 hits and 158 home runs in his career. Further, he was a three-time World Series champion, seven-time All-Star, a five-time winner of the Silver Slugger Award, a Gold Glove winner, the 2010 NL Rookie of the Year, and the 2012 NL MVP. He did this all while playing for the Giants.
Joining Posey as first-time candidates for the Hall of Fame is Jon Lester, who won 200 games and was a three-time World Series champion. Ryan Zimmerman, who played 16-years with the Washington Nationals, had 284 home runs with 1,846 hits while winning a World Series as well. Former New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner and former Seattle Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager will also be on the list.
Still, if one of the five is going to make the Hall on the first ballot, it will likely be Posey
