Nearly 388,000 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs are being recalled nationwide because a second-row seat could unexpectedly unlatch and move, increasing the risk of injury in a crash, federal safety regulators said.
Ford Motor Co. is recalling 387,911 2020-26 Ford Explorer and 2020-27 Lincoln Aviator SUVs because the switch for the easy-entry second-row outer seats may bind or stick, causing the seats to unlatch, tip or slide unexpectedly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
NHTSA warned that a seat that moves unexpectedly may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the bezel around the seat switch as necessary, free of charge.
Ford plans to begin mailing interim notification letters explaining the safety risk on July 27. A second round of letters will be mailed once a remedy is available, which the automaker expects to be in January 2027.
