PINELLAS PARK, Fla. – Pinellas Park police arrested a 61-year-old man on capital sexual battery charges after a 12-year-old girl gave birth at a local park, authorities announced.
Officers responded to Helen Howarth Park, located at 6301 94th Avenue North, at approximately 10:30 p.m. on July 16, 2026, following a report that a child had been born. Emergency responders transported both the newborn and the 12-year-old mother to a local hospital for medical treatment. Authorities reported that both are healthy and receiving care.
Due to the mother’s age, police opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the birth. During interviews with detectives, the juvenile stated she was unaware of the pregnancy.
She reported that her uncle had sexually battered and molested her multiple times over the past year at a home in Pinellas Park.
Following the investigation, detectives located the suspect, identified as Delfin Back, 61, of St. Petersburg. Officers took Back into custody at his residence, and he was booked into the Pinellas County Jail at 11:00 p.m. on July 17, 2026.
Police withheld the identity of the victim.
