Five people are dead after a Saturday morning crash in South Texas when an SUV reportedly ran a stop sign and was struck by a pickup truck, according to KIII 3 News.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. July 18 at the intersection of the U.S. 77 access road and State Highway 89 in San Patricio County.
According to DPS, Samantha Cruz, 37, of Corpus Christi, was driving a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee south on the U.S. 77 access road when she failed to yield at a stop sign. The SUV was struck on the passenger side by a southbound 2011 Toyota Tundra traveling on State Highway 89, KIII 3 News reported.
Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene.

Also killed were passengers Sara Cruz, 63; Sonia Montes, 64; and Sallie Montes, 61. Justice of the Peace Precinct 8 Judge Leslie Pullin pronounced all three dead at the scene.
A fifth passenger, Ruben Cruz, 68, was flown by HALO-Flight to CHRISTUS Spohn Shoreline, where he later died from his injuries, according to DPS.
The driver of the Toyota, a 46-year-old San Antonio man, and his sons, ages 15 and 11, were not seriously injured. All three were taken to Northwest Emergency Room as a precaution.
Texas Highway Patrol troopers from the Sinton office are investigating the crash. No additional details have been released.
