A 16-year-old girl was seriously injured while in a head-on collision with a driver feeling from a hit-and-run, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. July 21, a Jeep operated by a 30-year-old service member from Houston, Texas, rear-ended a KIA sedan operated by a 70-year-old Pensacola man on Perdido Key Drive, according to an FHP news release. The Jeep then fled from that crash and traveled southbound in the northbound lane on Perdido Key Bridge, colliding head-on with a Chevy sedan operated by a 16-year-old female from Pensacola.
The 30-year-old service member and the 16-year-old were transported to local hospitals for serious injuries sustained from the collision. The 70-year-old did not report any injuries.
The Perdido Key Bridge was shut down for approximately two hours following the crash.
The 30-year-old service member was arrested after a criminal investigation for DUI was completed.
Approximately 4.5 hours after the collision, the 30-year-old service member provided a breath sample resulting .163,doubling the legal limit. The service member was also charged with leaving a crash scene without rendering aid, and cited for possessing several open containers while operating a motor vehicle.
The 30-year-old service member was booked into the Escambia County Jail.
