In a Telegram post late July 21, Fedorov welcomed Drapatyi’s appointment, calling him “new breath and new hope in the struggle of free people for freedom and justice.” He described Drapatyi as “a voice of change that could not be ignored.”
“Now the high expectations of Ukrainians must be met with a clear vision for ending the war for independence, a strong team and decisive action to save the lives of our soldiers, automate the front, carry out asymmetric strikes and exhaust the Russian economy,” Fedorov wrote.
Fedorov said he called Syrskyi to thank him for defending Kyiv in early 2022, for the Kharkiv operation, and other historic battles of the Russo–Ukrainian war. He added that while those efforts are an important part of Ukraine’s history, “we need to move even faster and write new chapters, correcting previous mistakes.”
On July 20, Syrskyi published an article in which he said he was “surprised” to learn of a conflict with Fedorov and described their relationship as professional.
Hundreds of people protested in Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, and other cities on July 16, demanding Syrskyi’s dismissal and Fedorov’s reinstatement. The protests continued every subsequent day.
