There are eight books in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic Little House on the Prairie series, and the new Netflix adaptation of the novels isn’t wasting time pioneering the story forward. Here’s everything we know about Little House on the Prairie season 2.
The first season adapted the third book, technically, titled Little House on the Prairie. Makes sense. Laura is only five years old in the first book, Little House in the Big Woods. The second book, Farmer Boy, is a prequel about the Wilder family and their son Alonzo, a.k.a. Laura’s future husband!
So, has Little House on the Prairie really been renewed for season 2 already?
Yup! The show got renewed for Season 2 way back in March, according to Deadline, months before the first season premiered.
Who will be in Little House on the Prairie season 2?
Since the family packed up and left Independence after a devastating fire at the end of season 1, several cast members likely won’t return. But because the show got that sweet renewal so long ago, they’ve already announced some season 2 cast members. Rachelle Lefevre, Charlotte Sullivan, and Willa Dunn will play Eva Beadle, Margaret Oleson, and Nellie Oleson respectively.
What will Little House on the Prairie season 2 be about?
The new cast is a clue. Laura’s childhood nemesis Nellie first appears in On the Banks of Plum Creek. To be fair, that’s the fourth book in Wilder’s series that comes after Little House on the Prairie. Maybe we didn’t really need a “clue” to figure out that the next season would adapt the next book. (If you read these books as a kid and were traumatized by the locust plague, watch out... that’s this one!!) But hey, it’s fair to wonder if Little House in the Big Woods would have its day.
When will we get Little House on the Prairie season 2 on Netflix?
Again, since the show got an early renewal and has already started casting roles, we might not have to wait that long to see it on the streaming platform. The first season started filming in June 2025 for a July 2026 release. If the second season starts filming later this year, and according to Deadline they’re already in production, it could be ready to premiere in 2027.
Yearly seasons of streaming television on Netflix. Imagine that.
