Warning: This article contains spoilers from Dragon Ball Super manga.Dragon Ball has long been home to some of the strongest characters in all Shōnen anime. Previously, the series heavily focused on humans, Saiyans, Namekians, and other species. However, ever since the story expanded into the realm of the divine, it has become a bit difficult to identify who the strongest characters in the series are.
Of course, the Gods and the Angels would be among the strongest fighters in the series due to their power, status, and in some cases, immortality. But what about the mortal characters? Below are the strongest mortal fighters in Dragon Ball, ranked not only by their strength but also by their abilities and impact on the series.
Dyspo
Dyspo from the Pride Troopers of Universe 11 is one of the fastest mortal characters in Dragon Ball, earning him the title of "Sonic Warrior." While one could argue that his incredible strength was merely a result of his remarkable speed, fans must remember that he was one of the strongest fighters from Universe 11.
Not to mention, Dyspo was quite a handful during the Tournament of Power. While in the manga, Android 17 eliminated him on his own, in the anime, it took Mystic Gohan and Golden Frieza's combined effort to do so. Of course, the reason they collaborated was due to Dyspo's speed, but the feat itself cannot be ignored.
Toppo
Toppo is not only the leader of the Pride Troopers, but he is also next in line to become the God of Destruction of Universe 11. Hence, while he was already a strong fighter hailing from Universe 11, his training under Belmod allowed him to learn to utilize Godly Ki.
The Pride Trooper not only effortlessly destroyed Final Form Frieza's Golden Death Ball attack by flicking a tiny Destruction ball, but also overwhelmed a Final Flash from Super Saiyan God Evolved Vegeta with a Justice Blast. In fact, if it weren't for Vegeta adapting to his new form, the Pride Troopers' leader might have survived for far longer during the tournament.
Jiren
As fans must recall, Jiren was not only one of the strongest mortal fighters from all universes, but he was also stronger than the God of Destruction of his own Universe 11, Belmod. This not only made him a target for all fighters, but also turned him into the main fighting antagonist throughout the entire Tournament of Power Saga.
As far as his feats of strength are concerned, Jiren was not only able to thrash Goku while he had activated X20 Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken, but he also effortlessly fought both Goku and Vegeta when they pushed their blue forms well beyond their limits. In fact, the only time Goku pushed Jiren to his limits was when the Saiyan awakened his Ultra Instinct.
Broly
Although Broly appeared earlier in the Dragon Ball Z movies, his Dragon Ball Super counterpart is his strongest version ever. As such, he was able to overpower both Goku and Vegeta in their Super Saiyan Blue transformations. In fact, the only way the two Saiyans could defeat the Legendary Super Saiyan at the time was by fusing together as Gogeta.
So, momentarily, Broly was the strongest mortal fighter in Dragon Ball. Unfortunately, he was explicitly surpassed at the start of Granolah the Survivor Saga, when Goku addressed himself and Vegeta as the strongest fighters in the universe. This was before both of them became even stronger later in the same arc.
Piccolo
While Piccolo had been pushed to the sidelines for quite some time in Dragon Ball, the franchise's most recent movie, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, saw the Namekian receive a new form called Orange Piccolo. And as per manga artist Toyotaro, this new form pushed him into the same power range as Goku, Vegeta, Broly, and Gohan.
That said, given how Saiyan anatomy works, the chances of Piccolo being stronger than all of them is really low. In fact, the only reason he might be stronger than Broly is because the Orange Piccolo transformation was introduced much later than Broly's first canonical appearance.
Vegeta
Ultra Ego Vegeta is one of the strongest mortal fighters in Dragon Ball. While there is an argument that he is as strong as Ultra Instinct Goku, Granolah the Survivor Saga made it clear that he still had ways to go before mastering his newly awakened power-up.
This was further backed up at the end of the Super Hero Saga, when Vegeta was shown gulping while watching Ultra Instinct Goku fight against Gohan Beast. Such a reaction could only mean that he was still a bit weaker than the two fighters in front of him.
Gohan
While for much of Dragon Ball, Gohan has been known as the character with the most potential, the events in the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie finally saw the Saiyan finally reach that potential. Unlike his father or Vegeta, instead of relying on his Saiyan blood, the hybrid-Saiyan unlocked an all-new form called Gohan Beast.
And as evident from the manga, the Beast form is so strong that Gohan can not only go toe to toe with some of the other strongest mortal fighters in Dragon Ball, including Ultra Instinct Goku, but also face off against them one after another.
Goku
Ultra Instinct Goku is one of the strongest mortal fighters in Dragon Ball. In fact, he is so powerful that when he first awakened Ultra Instinct during the Tournament of Power Saga, the surviving Gods of Destruction stood up to acknowledge his feat.
Despite that, the only reason Goku isn't the strongest mortal fighter in Dragon Ball is due to the events that took place during Granolah the Survivor Saga.
While some might argue that Gohan Beast is stronger than Ultra Instinct Goku due to what happened during their fight, Goku admits that he wasn't fighting to defeat Gohan. As for Gohan, he was pushing his ki just up to the point where he might snap, implying that he was going all out.
Granolah
While Goku and Vegeta were indeed two of the strongest mortal characters during Granolah the Survivor Saga, one cannot ignore Granolah's wish to Toronbo. As fans must remember, Granolah had wished for the dragon to turn him into the strongest person in the universe.
So, no matter how strong Goku and Vegeta might have gotten during the story arc, Granolah the Cerealian was stronger than them. This was also evident from the end of the fight against Gas, as both Goku and Vegeta relied on Granolah's strength for the final attack.
Frieza
Of course, Black Frieza is the strongest mortal fighter in Dragon Ball. After training for 10 years in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, the Galactic Emperor finally attained a form that was far stronger than Goku and Vegeta's peak forms. In fact, during the transformation's debut, Frieza managed to one-shot all three, Goku, Vegeta, and Gas.
While some fans may be confused as to why Frieza wasn't weaker than Granolah despite his wish, the Galactic Emperor was inside the Time Chamber when Granolah made the wish. Hence, the wish did not account for Frieza when making Granolah the strongest. This allowed Frieza to become the strongest mortal in the series.
