Summer time, especially now that the World Cup is over, is dominated by transfer rumours and speculation. Following last season's fifth place finish, Liverpool fans are demanding plenty of activity in the market, as is new head coach Andoni Iraola. However, keeping the top-class players you do already have is potentially even more important than bringing in new ones.
On Friday, it was confirmed that Dominik Szoboszlai had put pen to paper on a new five-year contract. Having arrived from RB Leipzig for £60 million in the summer of 2023, he had just two years remaining on his previous deal, but has now committed to the Reds through to 2031. When the news was announced, the Hungarian international told the official website the following:

Had added that "in my football career, I can say this is in the top three" best days, alongside "when I signed for Liverpool... and when I got my baby". Well, according to Fabrizio Romano, this new deal means that Szoboszlai is "one of the best-paid players in the Liverpool squad", jumping up from £150,000-per-week to a reported figure of £250,000-per-week.
So, where does the Hungarian rank among his team mates? Before we get into the data, it is worth stating that, unlike in American sports, individual player wages are not disclosed publicly, and the below figures are based on reporting and best estimates.

According to the figures that are out there, only Virgil van Dijk, Alexander Isak and Ryan Gravenberch (who is doing well for himself) are earning greater wages than Szoboszlai. It is also worth mentioning that three of the biggest earners have come off the wage bill this summer.
The top earner Mohamed Salah (£400,000-per-week) alongside Ibrahima Konaté (£150,000-per-week) and Andy Robertson (£175,000-per-week) have all departed, freeing up a sizeable chunk of the wage bill for new recruits. Back to Szoboszlai, he is fully deserving of this bumper pay rise. Alongside the injured Hugo Ekitiké, the Hungarian was one of the very few Liverpool players to emerge from last season with any credit, scoring 13 goals and registering 12 assists across all competitions.
As Iraola looks to reshape and rebuild his squad this summer, Szoboszlai is one player whose name is written in permanent marker in Liverpool's best XI, and there are not too many of those.
