Nolan Arenado is likely to make a speech one day in Cooperstown, and he gave his chances of getting inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame a boost with a milestone he reached on Monday during a game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Athletics.
In the fifth inning of the game at Chase Field in Phoenix, the 35-year-old Arenado recorded the 2,000th hit of his career, becoming just the 297th member of the all-time exclusive club. Arenado’s historic hit came after he made contact with Athletics starter Jeffrey Springs’ 91 mph four-seam fastball for a double.
Arenado was later left stranded on base after Ildemaro Vargas lined out to center to end the inning.
Nevertheless, it was a noteworthy milestone for one of the greatest players of his generation. An eight-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove winner, Arenado is having a bounce-back campaign in his first season with Arizona.
In 2025, he hit .237/.289/.377 with 12 home runs and 52 RBIs to go along with just an 88 OPS+ through 107 games. He entered Monday’s series opener against the A’s batting .244/.318/.422 with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs across 93 games.
Among active MLB players, only Freddie Freeman of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros and Arenado’s former teammate with the St. Louis Cardinals, Paul Goldschmidt (now with the New York Yankees), have more hits than the Diamondbacks star.
Most of Nolan Arenado’s hits in the big leagues were made during his time with the Colorado Rockies, who selected him in the second round of the 2009 MLB draft. He had 1,206 hits in Colorado threads and 715 more with the Cardinals.
