DHS to spend more than $30 million on body cameras following fatal shootings

Following the controversy over the shootings in Houston and Maine, DHS said that its agents who don't have the camera will receive them in the next 60 days.

The Department of Homeland Security plans to spend more than $30 million on body cameras following the fatal shooting of two immigrants.

The agency ordered the cameras in two separate awards on Friday, both going to Axon Enterprise. One contract is for $17.8 million, and the other is for $13.1 million, NOTUS reported.

Immigration authorities were not wearing body cameras during the shootings in Houston and Biddeford, Maine. Following the controversy over the shootings, DHS said that its agents who don't have the camera will receive them in the next 60 days.

"Ensuring all of our ICE [U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement] law enforcement officers have body cameras nationwide is a top priority for DHS," a DHS spokesperson said in a statement.
