Ryan Clark’s tenure at ESPN may have come to an end, but he’ll still be a featured part of the MEAC’s annual football media event, which will air on ESPN+. According to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, Clark was among several ESPN employees laid off Monday as part of the network’s latest round of cost-cutting measures. Broader layoff announcements are set for Tuesday. Marchand reported that Clark learned of the decision while appearing on NFL Live and did not finish the program after being informed that he had been laid off.
Despite the unexpected news, Clark is still expected to appear at the 2026 MEAC Football Media Day on Tuesday at 12 PM EST. The former NFL defensive back is scheduled to host a live edition of The Pivot podcast alongside co-hosts Channing Crowder and Fred Taylor. The show is slated to broadcast live from MEAC Media Day, featuring Michael Vick, DeSean Jackson, and South Carolina State’s Chennis Berry.
Clark’s appearance was announced by the conference before news of his departure from ESPN became public. According to Marchand, Clark earned approximately $2 million annually at ESPN and was expected to play a significant role in the network’s coverage of Super Bowl LXI.

Clark joined ESPN in 2024 and quickly became one of the network’s most recognizable NFL analysts through his work on NFL Live and other studio programming. Now entering free agency in the sports media landscape, Clark is expected to continue expanding The Pivot, the podcast he co-hosts with Crowder and Taylor that has become one of the most popular athlete-led shows in sports media.
