Deltarune chapter 5 will nerf secret boss in next patch

8 Things to Do to Prepare For Deltarune Chapters 6 and 7
Deltarune Chapter 5 Will Nerf Secret Boss In Next Patch

A new patch has been released for Deltarune Chapter 5, and Toby Fox has promised that the next one will nerf the notoriously difficult secret boss.

A new patch has been released for Deltarune Chapter 5, but the more exciting news comes from an announcement alongside the update, as the latest secret boss is receiving a nerf in the game's third and final patch.

Each Deltarune chapter has featured an optional secret boss who drops a Shadow Crystal upon defeat. The first was Jevil, a mad jester; the second was Spamtom NEO, a puppet trying to cut its own strings; the third is the Knight, who seeks to bring about the Roaring; the fourth is Gerson, who tests Susie's mettle in battle, and the fifth is Pink, who crams video game nostalgia into every attack.

Pink has gained a reputation for being one of the trickiest bosses in Deltarune so far, which is why Toby Fox is finally giving players a chance to defeat them. The official Undertale/Deltarune Twitter/X has announced that a patch for the PC and PlayStation versions of the game has been released, with another on the way that will fix the issues with Pink.

Pink's Bombs Are Being Nerfed In Deltarune Chapter 5 Patch

Pink is considered so difficult because of a series of bomb attacks inspired by the Bomberman series, where they blow up in an explosion with lines that fill a grid. The attack becomes troublesome when Pink throws lots of them at once, as it can be really difficult to see where the bombs (and their AoE) will hit, as so many appear, and the player has to try and dodge the ones that have already landed.

According to Toby Fox, the upcoming third and final patch for Deltarune Chapter 5 will add an option that lets players nerf Pink's bombs after losing the battle once. This is optional, unlike the Knight's nerfs after Chapter 3, meaning players who like the challenge can keep the bombs as they were.

The reason Pink is considered so difficult is a series of bomb attacks inspired by the Bomberman series, where they blow up in an explosion with lines that fill a grid.

Fox also confirmed that the third patch will be the last in terms of extensive content revisions, and that the team is now shifting its focus to Deltarune Chapter 6 & Chapter 7, meaning the rest of the bosses are unlikely to have their difficulty adjusted, nor will there be any more dialogue scenes added, as was already the case with Pink, who was given new text related to the wider Deltarune lore.

Deltarune has had many tricky boss fights, with the Shadow Crystal bosses ranking among the hardest. These are technically easier than the ones in Undertale, as the player at least has access to multiple party members, so if one character is downed, the others can bring them back up. Chapter 5 saw a notable spike in difficulty, with the Flowery fight already being made easier in previous patches in response to fan feedback.

At least the Pink changes are being made optional, so fans don't have to endure the "I'm better" rhetoric that came from people who defeated the Knight before their sword knight attacks were weakened. Those who want to endure the horrors of Pink's endless wave of bombs can do so, but people who just want the Shadow Crystal can claim it without throwing their controller through the TV screen.
