DC's newest hero is officially better than Batman

DC introduces a hero who outsmarts Batman before the Dark Knight even realizes it, stealing the title of World's Greatest Detective from Bruce Wayne. Batman embodies the upper limit of what an ordinary human can accomplish, as Bruce Wayne has devoted virtually every advantage at his disposal to his uncompromising pursuit of self-improvement. Bruce Wayne's vast fortune gives him access to elite training, and his relentless discipline makes him one of the few individuals capable of integrating every field into a single crime-fighting philosophy. Every one of Batman's triumphs stems from an extraordinary work ethic that pushes his body and mind beyond ordinary human limits.

Many characters prove DC's title of "greatest detective" is far more competitive than it first appears. Detective Chimp pairs his astonishing intellect with encyclopedic knowledge and a willingness to investigate supernatural mysteries that Batman overlooks. The Question's ability to recognize hidden patterns that others dismiss helps him stand out, and Martian Manhunter combines traditional detective work with a wide variety of powerful abilities like telepathy, shapeshifting, and heightened senses that reveal clues inaccessible to most investigators. Prion Is A Better Tracker Than Batman

Not long after making his debut in Detective Comics #1107, Prion immediately distinguishes himself by accomplishing a feat that very few DC characters have even approached. In Detective Comics #1111, the young hero casually reveals that he discovered Batman's secret identity and brags about it by telling the Dark Knight, "when it comes to tracking, I'm better than you, Bruce." Bruce Wayne has spent years protecting his carefully guarded private life, yet Prion pieces together evidence and arrives at the truth before Batman realizes someone is actively investigating him. Even more impressively, Prion maintains his own anonymity throughout the process.

Prion doesn't have ultra-advanced resources or any kind of assistance. What's more, Batman is shocked to learn that Prion is homeless. And yet, wealthier and technically brighter heroes and villains have failed to match Prion's achievement. Batman's expansive gallery of rogues has defeated the Caped Crusader in combat before, and criminals like Hush, the Riddler, and Dr. Hugo Strange have outsmarted him at least once. Prion doesn't have the same experience to his name, which only adds more mystery to his already puzzling story.

The Dark Knight Can't Balance All His Records Simultaneously And Consistently

Batman has earned a legendary reputation as a detective, martial artist, strategist, inventor, philanthropist, and Justice League hero, but the sheer breadth of these accomplishments isn't sustainable. No human character, as skilled as they might be, can consistently stand alone at the absolute pinnacle of every discipline. Lady Shiva and Richard Dragon have each established compelling claims as superior martial artists, Mister Terrific exceeds Batman scientifically, Oracle gathers intelligence on a scale Bruce cannot match, and detectives like the Question or, more recently, Prion, have challenged Batman's investigative skills under the right circumstances.

Prion's successful discovery of Batman's secret identity exposes a vulnerability in the one area where Bruce is traditionally considered untouchable. If another detective can uncover Gotham's greatest secret while remaining invisible to Batman himself, then even the World's Greatest Detective has limits that can be exploited by someone better prepared for a specific investigation. If Batman were to remain the World's Greatest Detective and DC's best martial artist permanently and without fail, he would have to be superhuman. If Batman is DC's most skilled human hero, then he can't be the World's Greatest Detective and DC's best martial artist forever.
