I’m running for Jackson County executive because it’s time to right the wrongs of the past four years and restore the trust of taxpayers in Jackson County government. We’re all struggling with the rising cost of living. My No. 1 priority is getting your money back. We can restore trust by repaying hardworking taxpayers for illegal assessments and by demanding accountability. On day one, it will be my first and most important duty if elected.
I’ll stop illegal and outrageous property assessments and refund every taxpayer who was overcharged. In my first 30 days, I’ll resolve every outstanding appeal to start with a clean slate, correct the residential and commercial assessments and freeze any new increase until the system is fully operational and reliable. Then I will lead reform and overhaul of the county assessment department and the Board of Equalization so this never happens again.
We have all waited in shamefully long lines for hours for basic county services. This is unacceptable and must change. It’s time to remember Jackson County should work for you. It’s time to go back to basics. We have an opportunity - and a responsibility - to restore trust, bring stability and ensure our county government is working efficiently for the people it serves.
We as taxpayers deserve a county government that is open and honest, that works for us every day and is transparent with thorough audits of all expenditures of your tax money and the efficiency of services provided by departments. A Jackson County committed to fixing problems for people and neighborhoods. A county that works collaboratively together and with the community it serves. Focused on solutions not tiresome, embarrassing petty political bickering and excuses, whether fighting crime and drugs in our neighborhoods or making the delivery of basic services to taxpayers simple and easy. Every single tax dollar of every single taxpayer demands accountability, and you deserve no less.
Together, we can fix the problems and make a better Jackson County - a county that listens to the people it works for, a Jackson County that cares. The challenges facing Jackson County can be solved only if we work together. We can make COMBAT funds work in our neighborhoods fighting crime effectively. We can responsibly plan and develop the 402-acre site of the Truman Sports complex to create jobs and opportunity for our community, while prohibiting any data center development. We can assure the new jail is meeting all the expectations taxpayers deserve. We can assure every tax dollar is spent wisely.
This is our tax money. We pay for better, and we deserve better. As your county executive, but more importantly as a father, I will work each and every day to make Jackson County a safe and affordable place work, raise a family and retire.
