A possible crash alert from an electronic device led deputies to a two-vehicle crash in Delaware Township on Friday night, according to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office.
Sanilac County Central Dispatch received the alert at about 11:25 p.m. July 17, from a device near the intersection of Ruth Road and Wetzel Road. Sanilac County deputies, the Delaware Township Fire Department and Sanilac EMS responded.
Upon investigation, deputies determined that two vehicles were traveling north on Ruth Road.
A 19-year-old Deckerville man driving the first vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, slowed to make a left turn onto Wetzel Road. Deputies said the driver of the second vehicle, a 21-year-old Minden City woman in a 2018 Ford Edge, failed to recognize the Malibu was slowing.
Deputies said the woman in the Ford Edge attempted to pass the Malibu on the left but struck the vehicle as it was making the turn.
The Malibu driver was taken to Deckerville Community Hospital for treatment. The woman later sought medical evaluation at Deckerville Community Hospital on her own.
Deputies said both drivers appeared to have been wearing seat belts, and airbags deployed in both vehicles.
No further information is available as the investigation remains ongoing.
