The Beaumont city council has a new mayor pro tem.

Ward 1 Council member Cory Crenshaw was elected mayor pro tem with six yes votes and one no vote from Ward 4 council Member Chris Durio at the council’s meeting Tuesday. Former mayor pro tem and at-large council member AJ Turner, who was elected to the position on May 20, 2025, made the motion to elect Crenshaw into the position and it was seconded by Ward 2 council member Joey Hilliard.

According to the city charter, an individual elected as mayor pro tem will serve a one year term. The job of the mayor pro tem is to step in to the position of mayor if the mayor is absent or unavailable to perform the job themselves. If the mayor’s office becomes vacant during the mayor’s term, the mayor pro tem will become the mayor until the term expires.

Crenshaw thanked his fellow members for electing him into the position. Many council members and staff members also congratulated Crenshaw on his new role.
