A convicted killer is now charged in a separate deadly shooting that happened last month in east Birmingham.
Andell Daniel, 31, is charged with capital murder in the June 24 slaying 25-year-old Marcus Anthony Seawright Jr. during an argument at Monarch Ridge apartments, formerly known as Valley Brook Apartments.
At the time Seawright was killed, Daniel was on probation after pleading guilty three years ago to murder in the 2017 shooting death of a 63-year-old man.
In that case, Daniel was sentenced to 20 years in prison with five to serve, followed by five years of probation.
The capital murder warrant against Daniel in the new case was issued the day after Seawright was killed, court records show.
Birmingham police took Daniel into custody Wednesday in the 2900 block of Gallant Drive, in the same block where the deadly shooting happened.
He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail shortly after 7:30 p.m. and remains held without bond.
Daniel is also charged with certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm.
The shooting happened shortly before 2 p.m. that Wednesday, also in 2900 block of Gallant Drive.
According to Birmingham police, an argument took place and gunfire followed.
Seawright was shot in the chest. He was pronounced dead on the scene in the grass near a playground at the apartment complex at 2:12 p.m.
In the 2017 case, Daniel pleaded guilty on July 31, 2023, in the murder of Robert Washington. That shooting happened in the 4500 block of Eighth Court North in the Kingston community.
Oficers found Washington lying on his stomach with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. Police at that time said the suspect and the victim knew each other, and that the shooting also resulted from a dispute.
Jefferson County prosecutors are now seeking to revoke his probation in that case.
