Conan O'Brien has been mercilessly mocked on social media after debuting his new hairstyle, with many fans wondering why he decided to change his look.
The 63-year-old comedian sat down with former Saturday Night Live star Molly Shannon, 61, for an episode of Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, which was published on Monday, July 20. But rather than the interview itself, many viewers were focused on Conan's slicked-back hairdo, which prompted numerous reactions across social media platforms.
It comes just weeks after a resurfaced clip showed Conan labeling Irish people the funniest in the world. In the video, posted on TikTok, the comedian described Irish people as "funnier than all of us" while sharing a hilarious anecdote about an Irish cab driver.

Fans commented on Conan's new hairstyle on several social media platforms, including YouTube, where a person wrote after watching the podcast episode, "Molly Shannon is hilarious but I'm just here for a hair explanation." Another said, "I don't know what they're talking about. I'm 15mins in still reading the comments about his hair."
A third wrote, "Greaser Conan isn't real. He can't hurt you.." Someone else said, "we ALL clicked for the hair and theres just NO explanation??? TEAM COCO PLEASE." A fan urged Conan's team to "change him back."
A person posted, "Conan looking like your Irish Uncle who shows you how to steal gas from cars, and gifts you a flick-knife and to keep it a secret from Mom." Another added, "I didn't realize Conan was auditioning for the Irish spin off of the Sopranos......"
Many also commented on Conan's hair on Instagram, where a person shared, "Slick back Conan jumpscare." A fan said, "Seeing Conan's hair like this feels illegal."
"We need to make them address Conan's hair in the next episode for a segment and read the comments to Conan," one shared. Another Instagram user posted, "He looks like a toddler freshly showered with slicked back wet hair."

While Conan's team didn't explain when, how or why his hairstyle was changed, they shared a photo of the former TV host with Molly on Instagram, which attracted even more comments. "Maybe we just got a window into his styling process," a person said, while another wrote, "I think we've all left the house with wet hair before."
Team Coco then shared a further post on Instagram and X including some stills from the podcast episode alongside some of the hilarious comments from fans after Conan debuted his new hairdo. "This is definitely going to come up in a future episode now and I can’t wait lol," a fan commented, with another asking, "Is it greasy outside today?"
However, someone else was more supportive, as a fan wrote, "There've been like 6 or 7 white dudes in the history of photography who look good with wet hair. Gordon Gekko. Emilio in Mighty Ducks 2. Maybe Stamos, idk. I'm here to officially state that we can now add Conan Seamus O'Brien to the ranks."
Back in 2010, Conan revealed the inspiration behind his signature look, claiming he "invented" it when he was in high school. He said in an interview on 60 Minutes, "I knew one day I wanted to be in show business. I needed a hook. … Sometimes people don't know my name. They're like, 'You're the guy with the hair.'"
He then joked that his hair is crafted by a "Belgian dessert company that makes a whipped topping" as he praised the "structurally sound" style. He said, "If there's an earthquake and you’re in the Pacific Northwest, get under my hair. It's the safest place here."
However, during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, Conan posted a YouTube video titled, "Conan's Pompadour Is On The Brink Of Collapse." He joked, "It is crumbling as it grows, crumbling under its own weight. I have consulted with a structural engineer.
"He said there's too much on top and it's starting to come over. And that's what's happening right now. The pompadour cannot sustain the gravitational pull." The comedian went on to joke that his hair would eventually "collapse completely, crushing my skull."
