The Carolina Hurricanes have a new television home for the 2026-27 NHL regular season after the league stepped up to accommodate four teams in need of a local broadcast option following the collapse of Main Street Sports Group, parent company of FanDuel Sports Network.
The league announced Tuesday it will fill the void with a centralized production arm that will handle four teams: the Hurricanes, the Columbus Blue Jackets, the St. Louis Blues and the Minnesota Wild. More teams could be added.
Hurricanes CEO Brian Fork said Tuesday the team would have its own network, operated by Hurricanes Holdings, and that the organization will oversee production, distribution, sales and marketing for the network.
The team’s broadcast team will continue to have Mike Maniscalco handling play by play and Tripp Tracy as analyst, the team said.
Hurricanes fans have several options this season, including cable, satellite and streaming services. Other details, such as the network’s name and branding, distribution partners, channel locations and direct-to-consumer streaming options and pricing will be announced before the 2026-27 season.
NHL Productions is being expanded with a large investment from the league and will handle much of the game-production logistics.
Steve Mayer, the league’s president of events and contents, will head up the operation. The league had hired Rob McGlarry, the former MLB Network president, to supervise local-production operations.
MLB now handles local broadcasts for 14 teams. The NBA is planning a streaming hub to centralize broadcasts.
Teams such as the Hurricanes in the new centralized production model will pay the NHL for the cost of producing the local telecasts. The teams in turn, will receive the revenue from distribution and from advertising inventory.
The Canes set several viewership records during their run to the 2026 Stanley Cup, drawing the largest television audience for the Stanley Cup Final since 2019.
“We’re thrilled to launch our own sports network, and provide consistent access to Hurricanes hockey for our great fans,” Fork said in a statement. “More than ever before, the organization will have the freedom to deliver innovative programming that strengthens the connection between the team, its fans and its community partners.”
