WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — All three airports in the DMV region issued ground stops for flights headed to the area on Tuesday afternoon ahead of forecasted thunderstorms, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) issued its ground stop at 2:27 p.m.
Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) issued its ground stop at 2:28 p.m. The FAA said that flights leaving the airport had delays averaging 75 minutes and increasing due to the storms as of 2:45 p.m.
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) issued a ground stop at 2:29 p.m. The FAA’s website said that flights leaving the airport had an average delay of 45 minutes and increasing as of 2:20 p.m.
As of 3:15 p.m., all ground stops were scheduled to end at 5 p.m.
