A combination of a warm front and a cold front looks to bring about 2 separate waves of weather to the DMV. The main wave of severe weather will develop and cross the region from 1 PM to 7 PM, as the warm front lifts north and a cold front quickly swings in from the west. It’s not often we get strong fronts like this in the summer heat, which is why the ceiling for severe weather is so high today. Damaging winds will be the primary concern, but all threats are on the table (flash flooding, hail, and spin-up tornadoes).
After the first wave is through, a second wave of storms tonight may not pack as much of a severe punch as the afternoon storms, but even still, any areas that pick up heavy rain earlier in the day may need to watch for flooding from the second wave.
By Wednesday, scattered showers and storms are still in the forecast, especially across our southern counties and south of D.C., as the front slows down. So while some areas will have weather to deal with, the majority of the area should stay rain-free and be done with the severe weather.
By Thursday and Friday, the thermometer will top out in the lower to middle 80s with the humidity dropping significantly under sunny skies. This will be a true treat for late July, and it should stay dry and comfortable enough through the upcoming weekend. Temperatures return to around 90 degrees by the beginning of next week, which will also be our next chance of isolated showers and storms.

Tonight: Early showers and thunderstorms likely, then diminishing after midnight. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southwest wind 7 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.
Wednesday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms as early as 1 pm; otherwise it will be dry and partly cloudy, with a high near 86. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon.
Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 7 pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 65. North wind 3 to 6 mph.
Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 81. North wind around 7 mph.
Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 82.
Saturday: A slight chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 80.
Sunday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 86.
Monday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 88.
