Former Milwaukee Brewers star pitcher CC Sabathia turned 46 years old on Tuesday, but his birthday is not even the only highlight of his day. On the same day that he completed another trip around the sun, the Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher’s son, Carsten, officially joined the Brewers by signing a contract with the National League Central franchise.
Sabathia shared a photo of that huge moment for his family on X, formerly Twitter.
Carsten was selected by the Brewers in the 20th round of the recently concluded 2026 MLB Draft, marking some sort of a full-circle moment for the Sabathia family.
The former Cy Young Award winner Sabathia had a brief stint with the Brewers in 2008, when he was traded by the then-Cleveland Indians to Milwaukee. He would leave Milwaukee in the following winter after he signed with the New York Yankees, but he still made a mark on the Brewers and their fans.
Carsten, just five years old when his dad became a Brewer, still remembers the good times.
“I remember not wanting to leave because it was the summertime, and I was like, ‘Mom, we’re in Milwaukee and I never have to go to school,” Carsten said of his memories in Milwaukee (h/t Adam McCalvy of MLB.com).
“This is awesome. I never want to leave,’” Carsten said. “Being real young, that’s all you’re thinking about. I remember going to the stadium and loving the uniforms, loving the colors, loving the slide in deep left-center.”
During his senior season with the Houston Cougars, Carston, an infielder, finished second on his team with a .511 slugging percentage and made the All-Silver Glove Series Team.
