After the Denver Broncos lost John Franklin-Myers during NFL free agency this spring, three potential replacement candidates to watch this summer are Eyioma Uwazurike, Sai'vion Jones and Tyler Onyedim.
A fourth defensive lineman who has flown a bit under the radar is Matt Henningsen (6-3, 291 pounds), who missed all of the 2025 season with a torn Achilles. The now-healthy Henningsen turned heads this spring with a pick-six during a June practice.
“Well, you saw the reaction [to the interception]," Broncos coach Sean Payton said when asked about Henningsen last month. "He does a great job of seeing those screens or underneath throws. He’s doing really well. He’s exceptionally smart. He has great respect from his teammates. He knows the technique and the defense well. In a position that gets rotated and plays a lot, he’s going to be competing for one of those spots.”
Henningsen was originally picked by Denver in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL draft out of Wisconsin. He totaled 40 tackles and one sack as a rotational defensive lineman through his first two seasons in the league. After spending the 2024 season on the practice squad, Henningsen was competing for a larger role last summer before tearing his Achilles. The 27-year-old lineman will now be a sleeper lineman to watch for going into training camp.
