The Milwaukee Brewers have finalized their rotation for this weekend's series against the Colorado Rockies, and Jacob Misiorowski is not scheduled to start. Instead, Milwaukee will give the rookie right-hander additional rest after his first outing following the All-Star break.
Misiorowski returned Monday against the New York Mets after a 12-day layoff, tossing four scoreless innings while striking out six over 65 pitches. The Brewers previously backed off his workload because of minor arm fatigue and continue to manage his innings carefully.
The 24-year-old has rewarded that approach with one of baseball's best rookie seasons. Through 19 starts, Misiorowski owns a 10-4 record with a 1.56 ERA, a 0.77 WHIP and 173 strikeouts across 115 innings, establishing himself as a key piece of Milwaukee's rotation.
Milwaukee will instead turn to Shane Drohan on Friday, Robert Gasser on Saturday and Brandon Sproat on Sunday against Colorado. The move gives Misiorowski extra recovery time without disrupting the club's pitching depth.
His latest outing showed no signs of diminished stuff, as he threw 26 pitches at 100 mph or faster against New York. With no reported setback, the decision appears focused entirely on preserving his workload during his first full major league campaign.
The Brewers enter the Rockies series with a 63-37 record and a 7.0-game lead over the Chicago Cubs atop the National League Central. Their position in the standings allows the club to prioritize long-term health over short-term urgency.
Milwaukee's cautious handling of Misiorowski reflects its bigger goal of having one of baseball's most dominant young pitchers available and fully rested for the stretch run and postseason.
