Black Clover, a story by Yuki Tabata, has gone on to cement itself as a well-known series for the popular magazine by Shueisha, Weekly Shonen Jump. Despite its long hiatuses, fans were always looking forward to seeing the ending of the story, and while not everyone loved the conclusion, we were happy to see the story finally wrap up.
By the end of the Black Clover story, Yuki Tabata confirmed who the new Wizard King ended up being. Following Julius, Asta has now taken charge of the Clover Kingdom as the new Wizard King after defeating Yuno. Despite Asta becoming the Wizard King, however, he is not the best magic user around. The greatest magic user, stronger than even the Wizard King in that regard, is Yuno, Asta's childhood rival. Yuno's wind and star magic make him the biggest prodigy of magic in the world of Black Clover, which is reinforced by the story as well as the databooks.
Yuno’s Raw Magic Usage Surpasses Wizard King Asta In Black Clover
Black Clover started its run in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #12 on February 16, 2015. After 11 years of serialization filled with long hiatuses, the story finally concluded in Jump GIGA’s Spring Edition on May 1, 2026, with its final 3 chapters being released at once. We were all looking forward to these final chapters, as they went on to reveal the fate of the Wizard King title, which ended up going to Asta after a tough battle against Yuno. Asta proved himself as the strongest character around and was more than deserving to be the Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom.
However, it must be said that Asta's best asset isn't his magic powers. Asta was born with no mana, so technically, when it comes to magic, he isn't exactly the best. Asta is only able to be as strong as he is due to his monster strength, as well as his grimoire, which grants him the power of anti-magic.
“I swear. I never would've believed that... that human could level up so much in the span of a year and a few months. He took out all the high-level devils... instantly” — Adramelech about Yuno in Black Clover Chapter 336
When it comes to pure magical prowess, the strongest is Yuno Grinberryall, and that has been apparent since the beginning of the story. Yuno is a talented Mage, and in the world of Black Clover, he is a prodigy like no other. Even before the grimoire ceremony, where he would acquire the 4 Leaf Grimoire, Yuno was already quite capable with Wind Magic, and his skill only increased as the story went on. Throughout the story, Yuno has showcased mastery over Wind Magic, and he has even acquired Sylph, the spirit of Wind. With Sylph, he was even able to combine powers and transform into Spirit Dive, a powerful Wind Form that he used against the previous Wizard King Lucius.
Furthermore, Black Clover officially confirmed to us that Yuno is actually royalty from the Spade Kingdom. Because of that, he also has access to Star magic, which he attains after getting his hands on the Spade Grimoire. Yuno has dual affinity, and he can even combine both his Wind and Star Magic to deal deadly damage to his enemies. While Asta made use of his brute force and anti-magic to nullify Lucius, Yuno went all out with his magic powers to fight in this battle.
Yuno’s Magic Powers Make Him The Best Mage After The Two Year Timeskip
Technically, it could be said that until very recently, Julius, who shared one body with Lucius and held the position of the former Wizard King, was the true strongest magic user around. After all, he has access to a wide array of overpowered magic types, some of which include Soul and Time Magic. In the Black Clover databook, Marque-page de Grimoire, which was released on May 2, 2018, it was revealed that Julius excels in mana pool, magical power, and magic control, scoring a 5/5 in each. His mana sensing is also very high, at 4/5. However, in the same data book, we also get Yuno's stats, and he was definitely one of the most busted magic users around, even back then. Yuno scores 5 out of 5 in magic, mana sensing, and mana pool, and a 4 out of 5 in magic control.
“Of the tens of thousands of futures I foresee… there’s just one where they have the advantage. The key to it is the singularity with two grimoires, one from the Spade kingdom, the other from a four leaf clover. The child of the elf leader, Sylph’s chosen one, and rightful heir to the Spade Kingdom throne… Yuno Grinberryall. For the sake of world peace, we’ll crush him.” — Lucius in Black Clover chapter 336
Of course, we should remember that these stats were given years ago, and today, Yuno is far stronger than he was back then. Not only did Yuno develop greatly in the battle against Lucius, but we must also remember that there was a massive timeskip of two years, which only increased his aptitude after tough training. By now, Yuno's stats could very well be all maxed out in the magic department, making him far stronger than even the late Wizard King, Julius. In that sense, Yuno has surpassed all Wizard Kings in magical prowess alone.
Yuno’s Role In The Future After Black Clover Chapter 392
Yuno has always been one of the most important characters in the story of Black Clover, acting as Asta's biggest rival and having a massive role to play in the final battle against Lucius. In that sense, he has always shared the spotlight with Asta. While Asta went on to become the Wizard King after defeating Yuno, the latter still held his own prestigious title as the new Leader of the Golden Dawn Squad.
While Black Clover's story ended with Chapter 392 of Jump GIGA’s Spring 2026 edition, we still have more content to receive on August 4, 2026. On this date, we’ll get the final Black Clover release in the form of Volume 38, as well as a brand-new data book. This data book will include a new chapter, which could flesh out Asta and Yuno’s end-of-story character more. Finally, we could see Yuno and Asta fight once more together at their peak strength.
We may also finally get an idea of whether Yuno is ending up alone or if he's being set up for a new romance, like Asta is, with either Noelle or Mimosa. We're also curious to see if Yuno will be more involved with the Spade Kingdom, from which he technically originates. It is also important to note that through this data book, we will likely get the updated stat ranking of Yuno and other characters, officially confirming him as the greatest magic user of all time. We can't wait for this data book to be released and to reveal some new major lore concerning Black Clover.
