Yes, she is as relatable as her books.
We asked best-selling author Emily Henry (you know her from Great Big Beautiful Life, Beach Read, People We Meet on Vacation, and Book Lovers) to fill out a quick little survey. Here’s what she revealed about her latest book picks, music choices, shopping splurges, and more.
The Last Thing I...
BOUGHT: An individual bag of Grippo’s Bar-B-Q chips.
SPLURGED ON: A hotel weekend with my best friend in Santa Barbara.
ATE: Really delicious momo from a popular Nepali restaurant in Cincinnati. We had them delivered, then ate them while watching The Great British Baking Show—my favorite way to eat.
READ: The Missed Connection by Tia Williams and Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. They couldn’t be more different, but I had an equally amazing time with both.
ORGANIZED: My office. Whenever I’m on a deadline, you can find me reorganizing my office, like clockwork.
WATCHED: Ponies on Peacock. It’s so tense, and also funny and emotional with a lot of twists.
CLEANED: The kitchen floors. I have a lot of rugs in my house, and most of them shed. I’m not really a clean freak overall, but I am obsessive about sweeping and vacuuming the hardwood.
DECLUTTERED: My computer desktop. It was a loooong time coming. I collect screenshots with the best of intentions, and then, years later, I go through them trying to remember why I kept them in the first place.
DONATED: Money to World Central Kitchen. They’re one of my go-tos.
UPGRADED: My television setup—I got a projector, and now everything is so big and visible that my dog perceives the blimp in Roku City as a threat. Still worth it.
LEARNED: How to greet someone in Irish. But I already forgot, sadly.
CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT: Which book I was going to write next. I wrote an entire first draft, then realized it wasn’t the story I wanted to tell right now, and started a new one.
CROSSED OFF A TO-DO LIST: Took a writing retreat with friends! I put it on my 2026 bingo card.
GOT A DEAL ON: I snagged a pair of seemingly brand-new Ferragamo platform slides for a steal.
FELT PROUD OF: My friends’ amazing new books, which I got to hear them read aloud at the aforementioned writing retreat.
OVERTHOUGHT: The answers to this, for sure.
REGRETTED: Probably a haircut; I always regret those for a while.
LISTENED TO: Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet.
SCREENSHOTTED: I tend to screenshot articles about black holes so I’ll remember to go read them later, but as I mentioned earlier, this mostly just means I have a robust and mysterious screenshot collection on my desktop and my phone.
SNAPPED A PIC OF: A bunch of drinks in coconuts a friend made for us at the end of a day on our writing retreat.
DID TO RELAX: Napped beside a pool.
GOOGLED: “What should Chardonnay taste like?”
