An 18-year-old from Beaumont has been indicted on three charges.
Jiovan Torres has been indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury for assault of an officer, harassment of a public servant and obstruction or retaliation.
Around 1:55 a.m. on June 11, a Beaumont police an officer was sent to a major traffic incident near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway. While on the way to the scene, police were told by assisting officers that two men were in the vehicle and one of them had a firearm, shooting at the caller, according to a probable cause affidavit.
During the investigation, Torres was put in the back seat of a patrol unit, actively hitting the inside of the unit, which was so loud it could be heard outside, police said.

To stop him from injuring himself, Toress was put into a full-body restraint. When being put back into the vehicle, he bent his legs in at the knees, kicking the officer with both feet near his lower ribs/sternum, causing pain and knocking the breath out of him. The officer was then able to get him back into the car, according to police.
After finishing the investigation, two officers went to check on Torres, who said threatened to kill them. On the way to the hospital for clearance, he threatened to shoot the officers in the face. While at the hospital, Torres told one of the officers that he was not going to live past 30, according to police.
When Torres arrived at the Jefferson County jail after medical clearance from a local hospital, he was still not compliant, according to police. After putting him in the cart, which is used to transport restrained prisoners into the jail, he spit in one of the officer's eye and on his right arm, police said.
