Avengers: Doomsday's new trailer has Marvel fans convinced the movie's ending was spoiled

Avengers: Doomsday's new trailer has both excited and angered Marvel fans, leaving them split on the film.

After the first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday finally debuted, one particular moment has sparked major speculation among Marvel fans. Some viewers believe the sneak peek may have already revealed one of the film's final scenes. The trailer showcases Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the New Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men preparing to confront Doctor Doom. However, a brief shot of Johnny Storm carrying an injured Sue Storm as they're engulfed by bright light captured the attention of avid Marvel fans.

After one viewer enhanced the image by lowering its brightness and posted it on social media, many users stated that the scene appeared to show rubble from an explosion in the background. These claims led to theories that it could depict the movie's final moments, as it eerily resembles the tragic ending of an Avengers comic book (by Jonathan Hickman) run which ended in the destruction of Earth-616 (Marvel's main timeline).

The X user, Neb, who first came up with the theory, explained that the scene could be adapting the conclusion of Hickman's storyline. The short clip in the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer resembles the final Incursion that destroys Earth-616 in the comic after the team makes the decision to let their own timeline get wiped out instead of eliminating another universe in the multiverse.

This speculation has sparked discussion and a little backlash among fans for very different reasons. Although many were upset that Marvel Studios may have just spoiled the ending of Avengers: Doomsday with the trailer, others are devastated that Earth-616 blowing up would kill off the characters that the MCU has spent years developing and the storylines that audiences have grown to know and love.

While it would be tragic if Avengers: Doomsday ended the MCU as fans know it, it would also give it a fresh new start. Wiping the slate clean could mean that the studio could jump into a whole new universe, starting over and paving the way for new stories. This theory would also line up with recent comments that Marvel Studios has plans up until 2042 and its intentions of introducing new characters.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theaters on December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2026, in select theaters.
