DC and Warner Bros. set a release date for a new Batman film and windows for its follow-ups. The upcoming three-part animated trilogy will adapt the famous Knightfall arc from the comic books. The trilogy was previously announced at the Annecy International Film Festival earlier this year.
When is the release date for the new Batman movie?
WB Animation has announced the release date for Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall. The animated film will be released digitally on August 25, 2026. The film will be available for purchase from digital platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango, and more.
Additionally, Knightfall Parts 2 and 3 will be released later in 2026 and early 2027, respectively.
Those looking to add the film to their physical collection need to wait a little longer. Batman: Knightfall Part 1 will be released on 4K UHD, Blu-Ray, and DVD on September 8, 2026. The film will also be available in HD and standard definition from participating digital retailers.
The 4K UHD physical and digital version, along with the Blu-Ray, will also come with the following special features:
- Breaking the Bat: Adapting the Knightfall – Go behind the scenes with the long-awaited animated adaptation as the filmmakers reveal their process for breaking down the epic story; designing and animating the action; and breathing life into one of the darkest sagas in the Dark Knight's history.
- Batman Needs a Robin – Many incarnations of Robin have helped Batman fight his war on crime. The filmmakers reveal the vital role Robin plays in the Batman mythology (with an emphasis on Tim Drake), in the iconic Batman: Knightfall series and in the animated adaptation.
The R-rated film’s synopsis reads, “When the mysterious behemoth known only as Bane frees Batman's entire Rogue's Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader is pushed to his mental and physical breaking point.”
Batman: Knightfall Part 1 is directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jeremy Adams. It stars Anson Mount as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Mando as Bane, and Pablo Schreiber as Jean-Paul Valley/Azrael.
