Doctor Doom's Origin and Motivation
Victor Von Doom is one of Marvel's most formidable villains. In the comics, his mother was a sorceress tricked by the demon Mephisto and taken to the hell dimension. Growing up in Latvaria, Doom discovered his mother's mystical artifacts and became an accomplished sorcerer. While studying at Empire State University, he was roommates with Reed Richards and began developing a device to communicate with his mother. An explosion scarred his face, leading him to Tibet where monks forged his iconic armour and mask. Doom returned to Latvaria, overthrew its leadership, and combined his sorcery with advanced technology and robotics to become one of the most dangerous beings in the Marvel Universe.
In the MCU, Doom's backstory appears altered. The new poster reveals he had a wife and son, whom he lost when his machine to stop an incursion exploded and killed them, scarring his entire body. The poster shows cracks on a world and angelic figures, suggesting divine loss. Doom blames Steve Rogers for this tragedy, as Rogers' presence in the Fantastic Four's universe caused the incursion in the first place.
Doom's Master Plan
Doctor Doom's motivation blends heroism with vengeance. With magic, advanced technology, and intellectual prowess rivalling Reed Richards himself, Doom emerges as Marvel's most dangerous villain yet, seeking both salvation and revenge in Avengers Doomsday.
