It didn’t take long for Avengers: Doomsday to start breaking box office records after Marvel Studios released its first trailer. The upcoming film will be the first Avengers feature in over seven years, uniting heroes from three distinct universes. Following the trailer debut, Disney also let fans book their tickets in advance, leading to some impressive metrics.

What box office record did Avengers: Doomsday almost immediately break?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it only took Doomsday two hours after the trailer dropped to “blow past the full first day pre-sale numbers” of recent Marvel movies. These include breaking past the pre-sale grosses of 2025’s Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps combined.

For reference, the three projects collectively grossed over $1.3 billion by the end of their theatrical runs. That’s still lower than Marvel’s more successful films, which have grossed more than that with singular releases. Avengers: Doomsday also builds on the characters introduced in the mentioned films.

The report further notes that one of the factors that helped Disney break said record is the use of the Infinity Vision branding. Announced at CinemaCon earlier this year, Infinity Vision is a new certification program for premium large format theaters with bigger, brighter screens and better sound setups. Early bookings for the film were restricted to Infinity Vision screens, which was done to “claim premium real estate and secure audiences” before its release.

Avengers: Doomsday is releasing on the same day as Dune: Part 3, with the latter securing all IMAX screens for three weeks. At the time of writing, Warner Bros. has not opened ticket bookings for Dune: Part 3.

Ahead of Doomsday, Marvel is also rereleasing its last major crossover, Avengers: Endgame, in theaters in September. The last Avengers film grossed over $2.7 billion worldwide, becoming the second-highest grossing feature film of all time.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
