Well, if this doesn't prove the demand for Earth's Mightiest Heroes is still there, not much else will. It may be seven years since we last saw The Avengers together, but audiences clearly haven't forgotten them because the combination of returning heroes, the X-Men, and Robert Downey Jr. stepping into the role of Doctor Doom has led to one of the biggest trailer launches in the history of cinema.
The first official trailer for Avengers: Doomsday generated an enormous 503 million views during its first 24 hours, making it the second-biggest movie trailer debut of all time. It trails only Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which previously set the record with 719 million views, so it's safe to say the interest in Marvel is still very much on point. The result also gives Disney its most-viewed trailer launch ever, easily surpassing the 365 million views earned by the Super Bowl teaser for Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024.
The trailer teased the enormous battle ahead as the Avengers and X-Men unite against Doctor Doom, while the footage included Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Channing Tatum as Gambit, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, and Ian McKellen as Magneto. In the trailer, Thor tells the gathered Avengers that they are truly up against it, and that they will return from the fortcoming battle either forged as a family for life or, well, dead. Not exactly the cheeriest pep talk but hey, it is what it is.
'Avengers: Doomsday' Presales Have Already Set the Tone
Disney also placed a limited number of tickets on sale alongside the trailer, generating $16.5 million in advance sales during the first day. Premium-format screenings on December 17 and December 18 are reportedly already largely sold out, with cinemas adding further showtimes for Christmas Day and beyond. And although early ticket sales do not guarantee a record-breaking opening, the film’s first-day total was reportedly twice as high as the equivalent figure for Deadpool & Wolverine. That film went on to open with $211 million domestically.
Directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday will serve as the 39th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers: Doomsday opens in cinemas on December 18, 2026.
