Close to 20 years since the hit comedy The Big Bang Theory premiered, the series kickstarted one of the longest-running television franchises. The mothership series concluded in 2019, but fans had already been introduced to the next chapter in the form of a prequel series: Young Sheldon. As the title suggests, the show followed Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) in his younger years growing up in Texas. This prequel was a success, and it led to yet another spin-off in 2024. The second series is a sequel to Young Sheldon, but it doesn't follow Sheldon; it follows his older brother, Georgie (Montana Jordan). Titled Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, it chronicles Georgie's rise from a struggling teenage husband to a successful businessman.
Georgie's spin-off has also been a success, with a third season expected to debut this fall. But as CBS viewers continue to be entertained by the trials and joys of the oldest Cooper sibling's new life, HBO is ready to showcase another character. The streaming service ordered a new spin-off from The Big Bang Theory focusing on one of the most underrated characters in the series. For most episodes, Kevin Sussman's Stuart Bloom was seen when the gang visited his comic book store to check out the latest issues of their favorite comics. Stuart was known for dark, deadpan humor that made him a fan favorite.
The new spin-off titled Stuart Fails to Save the Universe goes even darker as he and his gang find themselves with an impossible task. Everything goes south when Stuart breaks a device created by Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and brings about a multiverse Armageddon. The task to restore the universe falls on him, but he finds allies in his girlfriend Denise (Lauren Lapkus), his friend Bert (Brian Posehn), and trouble-stirrer Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie). As Stuart & Co try to fix things — spoiler alert: they don't succeed — they meet alternate-universe characters that fans know from The Big Bang Theory. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe premieres on HBO on Thursday, July 23, at 9 pm ET.
Who Is Behind 'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe?'
The sci-fi comedy is created, written, and executive produced by Big Bang creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady together with Zak Penn. As for who from the original Big Bang will appear, a teaser recently confirmedWil Wheaton's appearance. Still, it will be interesting to see different versions of the characters fans met in 2007. The ten-episode first season of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe debuts this Thursday, July 23, at 9 pm ET with new episodes every Thursday.
