Athletics’ infielder Joshua Kuroda-Grauer was forced to exit Monday’s 5-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks early after a foul tip hit him directly in the nether regions. A new report on Tuesday revealed that Kuroda-Grauer was forced to undergo surgery.
The 23-year-old rookie reportedly underwent surgery after suffering a ruptured testicle, according to Underdog MLB. Kuroda-Grauer was almost immediately placed on the 10-day IL.

With the surgery completed, the New Jersey native will likely need four to eight weeks before recovering. However, it is important to note that internal healing can take up to three months. According to the timeline, Kuroda-Grauer could be out for the remainder of the 2026 campaign. But that will ultimately depend on his recovery time.
The Athletics called Kuroda-Grauer up to the majors on June 29, where he made his MLB debut against the Los Angeles Dodgers. While he had a brilliant showing in his major league debut (three hits, one RBI, one run), the Athletics lost that contest 9-4 to Los Angeles.
Before the unfortunate injury, Joshua Kuroda-Grauer was flashing major potential as a two-way player. In his first 60 career at-bats, the former Rutgers star recorded 25 hits, one home run, and four RBIs, giving him a stellar .417 batting average and .435 OBP. Playing third base, second base, and shortstop, Kuroda-Grauer never recorded a single error in 17 games (16 starts) and owned a 100.00% fielding percentage.
Joshua Kuroda-Grauer is the fifth position player on the roster on the IL, which includes Nick Kurtz, Zach Gelof, and Denzel Clarke. The Athletics will have to trudge on through the second half of the campaign with a makeshift roster, as the club prepares to take on the Diamondbacks again on Tuesday night.
