American Airlines has introduced new digital tools to streamline booking and travel, including Venmo payments, enhanced flight information, a digital disruption platform, easier TSA PreCheck opt-in, and electronic boarding gates, aiming to simplify the travel experience.

It’s getting a little easier for travelers to handle airline details from their mobile devices, thanks to new digital tools from American Airlines

The carrier has just rolled out new digital capabilities that are designed to make each step of the travel process, from booking to moving through the airport, more seamless.

At the booking stage, travelers can now use Venmo to pay for flights on American Airlines’ website. Venmo joins Apple Pay as one of the latest flexible, digital wallet payment options to be added to the carrier’s site.

Additionally, American says that it plans to add Venmo payment capabilities to its mobile app in the near future.

As part of its latest suite of digital enhancements, the airline is also providing passengers with more transparent and detailed information on flight delays and cancellations through its app, as well as email, text message, and on its website.

The airline recently launched a digital disruption platform that allows passengers to navigate self-service rebooking options and any applicable vouchers for hotels, meals, and ground transportation. Rebooked passengers are also now checked in automatically after a flight disruption.

American is also making it easier for its fliers to opt into the TSA PreCheck Touchless ID program. The initiative allows travelers with PreCheck memberships to opt into a faster lane at the security checkpoint that uses facial recognition instead of scanning a boarding pass and ID.

In August, American will enable eligible travelers to opt into Touchless ID during the online check-in process on its website.

The new digital tools are rolling out as American is making a concerted effort to leverage technology to improve the travel process, especially at its hub airports like Dallas-Fort Worth. At its home hub at DFW, American is launching new products like electronic boarding gates that will make departures even smoother.

“Technology should remove complexity from travel, not add to it,” said American’s Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden. “Our goal is to build digital experiences that simplify travel and give customers more confidence every step of the way.”
