On April 4, 2002, British actress Elizabeth Hurley not only welcomed her son, Damian Hurley, but also gained a best friend.
“[My secret] was to put him first; that was just unequivocal,” Elizabeth looked back at their close bond in an appearance at the Jess Cagle Show. “Once I realized that, which I pretty much realized the day I had him, then everything else, every decision, was actually quite easy.”
Over the years, Damian, whose biological dad is the late businessman Steve Bing, has been following in his mother’s footsteps in the entertainment industry. After making his acting debut in Elizabeth’s beloved series The Royals at just 15 years old, Damian has gone on to pursue modeling, screenwriting and directing. His directorial debut, titled Strictly Confidential, was released in 2024 and starred none other than Elizabeth in the starring role.
Throughout it all, Damian and his mother have treasured a close relationship, becoming her favorite plus-one to major red carpet events. He also developed a close bond with a few of Elizabeth’s exes, including Arun Nayar, who Damian calls his father, Shane Warne, and Hugh Grant, who also happens to be his godfather.

Damian made his acting debut alongside his mom.
At just 15 years old, Damian made his acting debut on his mother’s beloved TV show, The Royals, which ran from 2016 to 2018. In it, he played Prince Hansel Von Liechtenstein in a total of three episodes, and even shared scenes with his proud mom.
“He’s been such a supporter of the show and indeed of me for his whole life,” Elizabeth told People of her son’s acting debut. “And to have him actually be in costume, mic-ed up, doing his lines, I was proud.”
He’s an accomplished model.
Two years after his acting debut, Damian started his career as a model with a one-year exclusive with photographer Steven Meisel. During their time together, Damian did a campaign for Pat McGrath’s Skin Fetish Sublime Perfection foundation, as well as a short film for the beauty brand alongside top model Irina Shayk.
In 2020, he signed with IMG Models. “I’m incredibly excited to be joining IMG Models,” Damian said in a statement to WWD at the time. “To become part of such a wonderful family is truly fantastic. I can’t wait to see what the future brings.” He has since modeled for major brands like Fendi and Diesel, and collaborated with Versace, DSquared, and Cavalli.
Damian directed his first feature film in 2022.
In 2022, Damian pivoted his career back into the entertainment world. Per IMDb, he wrote and directed a short film named The Boy on the Beach. That same year, he sat in the writer and director seats once again in his first feature film, titled Strictly Confidential. The movie was released in 2024.
“I can’t begin to sum up how intense and wonderful the past few months have been,” Damian wrote on Instagram after filming wrapped. “I’m truly blown away by the inspiring and talented people I’ve been able to work with.”

Damian grew up with several close father figures.
When Damian was still a baby, Elizabeth started dating businessman Arun Nayar. They were married from 2007 to 2011, and together they raised Damian in Gloucestershire, England. To this day, Damian posts many pictures with his dad on social media, including snapshots of them in India, Nayar’s home country.
After Elizabeth’s split with Nayar, she had a relationship with Australian cricket player Shane Warne. Damian and Elizabeth lived part-time in Australia during their relationship. Elizabeth and Warne broke up in 2013, but Warne and Damian continued to be close.
In March 2022, Warne died suddenly from a heart attack at the age of 52. At the time, Damian said goodbye to his father figure on Instagram. “I’m still trying to wrap my head around this… SW was a father figure to me for most of my formative years and was truly one the best men I’ve ever known,” he wrote. “My heart is broken. Thinking of and sending love to all SW’s family ♥️.”
Hugh Grant is Damian’s godfather.
Speaking of exes, before Damian was born, Elizabeth dated actor Hugh Grant. The two were together for 13 years before splitting in 2000. Despite their breakup, Elizabeth and the Notting Hill star continued to be friends, and she asked him to be Damian’s godfather when he was born.
“We went through so much together, but I’ve been thinking, one of the most important things to keep good relations with your exes is to have a lot of respect for their current life,” Elizabeth said of the decision on the PEOPLE in the ‘90s podcast
Damian is supporting his mom in her new relationship.
Since late 2024, Elizabeth has been dating country music star Billy Ray Cyrus. Despite initial rumors of a feud in the family because of their relationship, Damian has since shut down the speculation and publicly defended the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer.
“I’ve been in the public eye since the day I was born and rarely comment on anything written about me or my family, but recent stories are so startlingly untrue that I want to offer a little clarity,” he wrote in his Instagram Story, per E! News. “For the record: I adore @billyraycyrus and think he’s one of the sweetest men I’ve ever met. I love seeing my mom so happy.”
