Conqueror's Haki, also known as the Color of the Supreme King, is one of the strongest abilities to exist in the world of One Piece. Introduced properly in the series in One Piece chapter 597 on August 30, 2010, this ability is stated to be present within only one in a million people. As such, not everyone goes on to awaken this power.
Within the Straw Hat Pirates, three individuals are known to hold the Color of the Supreme King, those being Monkey D Luffy, who awakened it long before the time skip, Roronoa Zoro, who officially utilized it for the first time in One Piece chapter 1010 against Kaido, and Sanji, who was confirmed to hold latent Conqueror's Haki in One Piece chapter 1187 on July 5, 2026, In Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #32. With 3 Conquerors on board already, Eiichiro Oda is potentially preparing for another Straw Hat to receive the Color of the Supreme King. This character is none other than Usopp, whose character arc can only come full circle by him awakening the ultimate conquering power in the world of One Piece.
Eiichiro Oda Has Foreshadowed Supreme King Haki For Usopp After Sanji
Usopp is one of the weakest characters within the Straw Hat Pirates, and together with Nami and Chopper, he is often clubbed in the Weakling Trio of the Straw Hats. However, Usopp's personal character arc sees him aim to become a brave warrior of the sea. To that end, Eiichiro Oda has crafted a carefully written plot line around his character, which sees him rise through shame and failure to glory, and grow in confidence and abilities with each passing arc.
“I'm going to become a Brave Warrior of the Sea! The Grand Line, here we come!” — Usopp declares his dream with the remaining Straw Hats, One Piece Chapter #100
Usopp's character is also directly connected to his lies. Often, the lies that Usopp speaks come true, and this has happened on various occasions in the story. In the Syrup Village arc, Usopp's lie about pirates attacking the village became true when Captain Kuro unleashed his power. Similarly, Usopp's stories to Kaya about goldfish excrement being mistaken for islands also came true. Usopp's statement that there exists a cure for all illnesses was also foreshadowed to be true through the character of Dr. Hiriluk in the Drum Island arc.
Tontattas: What is this vibration? Is the Hero upset?
Usopp: Of course not! That was my Supreme King Haki just now!
Tontattas: Haki? Is that the skill you used to knock out 50,000 bad guys at Fishman Island? That's our hero!
— Usopp claiming he has the Color of the Supreme King, One Piece Chapter #713
In Dressrosa, specifically in One Piece Chapter 713, which was released officially on July 8, 2013, Usopp stated that he possessed the Color of the Supreme King, which was causing immense shaking in the land of the Tontattas. This was Eiichiro Oda's first foreshadowing of Usopp holding Conqueror's Haki through a lie. Later down the line, the author doubled down on Usopp holding the Color of the Supreme King in One Piece chapter 1024 on September 6, 2021. In this chapter, Usopp falsely claimed to the Warriors of Wano that his Conqueror's Haki caused all the shaking in the Performance Floor of Onigashima, when in reality, it was Big Mom's Haki. This was one of the biggest reasons why Usopp received his 500 million berry bounty in the first place. As such, Eiichiro Oda's gag with Usopp could potentially become true by granting him the Color of the Supreme King.
Beast Pirates: Hey, what's wrong with you guys? Is this the Supreme King Haki?
Usopp: They can't help it! It's natural for those with weak resolve to crumble before me. After all, I took down two of the Tobiroppo. They call me Usohachi, the Beast Hunter.

Usopp's Character Will Only Complete After Awakening The Color Of The Supreme King
Usopp's character arc is a rather peculiar one. His dream as a Straw Hat is to become a Brave Warrior of the Sea, but right now, his character is anything but brave. As long as Usopp remains weak, he can never truly be brave, and even after that, it is highly likely that his character will be full of doubt, because that's his true charm. Interestingly enough, to fully erase that doubt means awakening full strength, and this was confirmed by Rayleigh in One Piece Chapter 597 on August 30, 2010. This can only happen with The Color of the Supreme King, and once Usopp awakens this power, his doubt will be erased, and he will truly become a brave warrior of the sea.
“Haki is a power that is dormant in everyone everywhere. The ability to sense spiritual energy and overwhelm enemies is something everyone has to some degree. But most people never discover it. To never doubt, that is true power. Now watch! Most Haki can be divided into two types or colors.” — Silvers Rayleigh explains how to bring out the true power of Haki, One Piece Chapter #597
Of course, there is no guarantee that Eiichiro Oda will give him this power up, but at the very least, it is being lined up, and he is in contention for it. From the remaining Straw Hats, Usopp is by far the strongest candidate for the Color of the Supreme King, and it will be interesting to see if the author ends up giving this power to him or not.
Other Straw Hats Who Could Hold Supreme King Haki
While Usopp is the likeliest character to awaken the Color of the Supreme King, there are others who could hold on to this power as well. The primary candidate would be the next potential Straw Hat, Loki. Loki has already showcased the ability to use the Color of the Supreme King, and if he joins the Straw Hat Pirates, then he will become their fourth Conqueror's Haki user. There is also Gunko, who is not only a Celestial Dragon but also royalty as the Princess of Esperia Kingdom. She could potentially awaken Supreme King Haki through her bloodline, provided she joins the Straw Hat Pirates after the events of Elbaf.
The same case could also be made for Jewelry Bonney, who is also royalty and holds immense potential. Finally, a small case can be made for Nami to wield this ability as well. In One Piece Chapter 1058, released officially on August 28, 2022, Eiichiro Oda jokingly portrayed her to wield the Color of the Supreme King. Perhaps this gag can once again be turned into a serious plot point by the author in the future, but the chances of that happening remain low. For now, the likeliest Supreme King Haki user in the Straw Hat Pirates after Sanji is either Usopp or a new member of the crew who joins after Elbaf.
