Aaron Rodgers is back in his family’s fold after years of tension. The NFL star posted rare photos with his parents and brother following a decade of estrangement.
The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, 42, shared a handful of wholesome snaps with his 2.2 million Instagram followers, starting with the sweetest smiley picture of him and his mom, Darla Rodgers, hugging. The mother-son duo embraced in the driveway of a home in front of a big field; Aaron wore a casual black T-shirt, blue athletic shorts, a baseball cap, and brown flip flips, while his mom paired a sleeveless blue blouse with baggy patterned pants.
A second photo saw Aaron posing with his dad, Ed Rodgers, clad in a blue button-up shirt and beige shorts. A third and fourth photo saw Aaron sharing a couch with his brother, Luke Rodgers. In a fifth, he held the hand of a little girl who appeared to be his niece.
“Another bonding week. #fam,” Aaron wrote in the caption.
Tensions between Aaron and his family go back about 10 years, with their feud first becoming public knowledge in 2016 when his younger brother, Jordan Rodgers, shared on The Bachelorette that Aaron had distanced himself. “It’s just the way he’s chosen to do life. I chose to stay close with my family and my parents and my brother [Luke],” Jordan said at the time.
Aaron did not include any photos with Jordan in this photo dump, though the two follow each other and Jordan left a like on the post.
The timeline of Aaron’s reconciliation with his family is unclear, though a source told People in December 2018 that the feud stems from Aaron and Jordan’s lifelong sibling rivalry. Tensions peaked after a “blow-up” between the brothers required their parents to get “in the middle of it.”
“[They] have always been competitive, and they’re always trying to one-up each other,” the insider said. “It’s been that way since they were kids. They got older, and the stakes got higher.”
Ed revealed to The New York Times in 2017 that Aaron had not spoke to his family since the end of 2014. The brothers appeared to take shots at one another over the years, with Aaron not pictured at Luke’s 2019 wedding or Jordan’s 2022 wedding, despite a source telling People in January 2022 that Jordan and Aaron had “started talking a little bit.”
