It wouldn’t be a Gabbriette Bechtel look without an element of edge. The model exchanged vows with singer Matty Healy in Los Angeles on July 18, and one of her three bridal ensembles broke this major tradition.
In a new interview with Vogue, Bechtel discussed the custom Matières Fecales designs. “I’ve always loved designers like Matières Fécales that tell stories through fabric,” she told the magazine. “Their last show was just a full story, and I just felt like they were a perfect match.”
For her first look, Bechtel decided to go with a black dress, which was inspired by Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 film, Bram Stoker’s Dracula. While the color isn’t typically bridal, the 28-year-old muse did incorporate “something old” by using a Maison Margiela dress she already owned. Shredded white tulle was added to the skirt, extending into a floor-length train.
“Is bridal always white? Clearly not. Bridal is whatever you want it to be. I’ve always been a fan of black clothing, and it felt right using this dress that I’ve loved for so long and repurposing it,” Bechtel explained.
The gown she wore to walk down the aisle, meanwhile, made her “feel like a princess.” Crafted from white silk taffeta, the long-sleeved, hand-pleated design was paired with a Stephen Jones veil.
Finally, for the reception, Bechtel changed into a leather two-piece suit consisting of a plunging jacket and cropped pants. She styled it with a small satin top hat and custom Christian Louboutin pumps.
“This is when I’m going to come out [and say], ‘Time to party!’” Bechtel said. “With a Champagne. Honestly, I see a little bit of Nicole Kidman or Kylie Minogue going on.”
Healy famously popped the question with a 5-carat black diamond engagement ring. He began dating Bechtel in 2023 before proposing the following year.
