Land clearing and construction has been going on at 1544 S. Lake Drive in Lexington’s Red Bank area. Lexington County Planning Commission paperwork indicates a Spinx store is planned there.

The company is known for offering fried chicken, gasoline and more. Now a new location is planned at this spot in Lexington County.

A chain of convenience stores known for fried chicken, breakfast sandwiches, gasoline and more is planning a location along a busy road in Lexington County.

Spinx, which has locations across South Carolina, is planning a new spot at 1544 S. Lake Drive in Lexington’s Red Bank area, near the intersection of S. Lake Drive and Nazareth Road. The Spinx was listed as a commercial project in the May agenda paperwork of the Lexington County Planning Commission, with a notation that a gas canopy is part of the project. A report earlier this year from commercial real estate firm Colliers South Carolina also indicates 1544 S. Lake Drive was sold to The Spinx Company.

Spinx was founded by Stewart Spinks in Greenville in 1972, per the company’s website, with the first store at Laurens Road and East Washington Street. The company now has more than 80 stores across the state with more than 1,400 employees, per the Spinx website.

Through the years Spinx grew its operations, particularly as it relates to food options. The company has been known for its fried chicken, which it deems “legendary,” with bone-in, tenders and nuggets available. Spinx also carries a number of breakfast items, including chicken biscuits, sausage biscuits, hash browns and more.

The Red Bank area in south central Lexington County has boomed with growth in recent years with new subdivisions, schools, businesses and more. More than 28,000 cars per day travel down South Lake Drive, per SC Department of Transportation data.
