After months of teasers, Marvel Studios has finally released the first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday — and it's packed with enough stars to keep fans pausing every frame.

Opening in theaters on December 18, the superhero blockbuster brings together characters from almost every corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), including the Fantastic Four, X-Men and the Wakandans.

Among the trailer's biggest reveals is Robert Downey Jr.'s first full appearance as the villainous Doctor Doom, and Chris Evans's return as Steve Rogers for the first time since 2019's Avengers: Endgame.

With so many familiar faces appearing across just two minutes of footage, it's easy to miss a few. Here's every major Marvel character who appears in the trailer — and the notable names who don't.

The trailer gives Marvel fans their first proper look at Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom.

Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom takes center stage in the trailer.

After more than a decade as Tony Stark / Iron Man, the Oscar winner's return to the MCU is a big talking point — because this time he's playing the villain. Doctor Doom, also known as Victor von Doom, is the despotic leader of Latveria, a fictional European country.

After a brief tease in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the trailer finally gives fans their first proper look at Doctor Doom. The footage shows him wearing a green cloak and a metal mask, warning that "we shall be faced with an unthinkable decision."

Paul Rudd and Kathryn Newton in Avengers: Doomsday.
Scott Lang / Ant Man (Paul Rudd) shares a quiet moment with his daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton).

Several of the MCU's biggest heroes are back to lead the fight against Doctor Doom, including Steve Rogers (Chris Evans).

The original Captain America was last seen handing his shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) at the end of 2019's Avengers: Endgame. The trailer ends with Rogers once again summoning Mjolnir, Thor's enchanted hammer, which he proved worthy to wield during Endgame.

Wilson is also part of the lineup after starring in Captain America: Brave New World, his first solo outing as Captain America.

Thor (Chris Hemsworth) appears to take on a leadership role, warning the team they're facing a threat unlike anything he's encountered. He tells them to "put aside your petty squabbles" before concluding: "We're going to need a miracle."

Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) is among the heroes assembling to face Doctor Doom, while Scott Lang / Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) shares a farewell with his daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton) before joining the rest of the team.

Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) also features after making his MCU debut in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Shuri, M'Baku, The Thing, Invisible Woman, Winter Soldier, Falcon and Ghost stand together in a scene from Avengers: Doomsday.
Fantastic Four 's The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) shakes hands with Black Panther 's M'Baku (Winston Duke).

Marvel's First Family joins the crossover after being introduced in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Pedro Pascal stars as Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic alongside Vanessa Kirby's Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn's Johnny Storm / Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach's Ben Grimm / The Thing.

The New Avengers make their first appearance since Thunderbolts, which ended with the group becoming Marvel's newest superhero team.

Florence Pugh leads the group as Yelena Belova, the former Black Widow assassin, alongside John Walker / U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) and Falcon (Danny Ramirez).

Rebecca Romijn as Mystique in Avengers: Doomsday
X-Men star Rebecca Romijn reprises her role as the shape-shifting mutant Mystique.

The trailer reunites several stars from the original X-Men movies, many of whom first appeared in the franchise more than 20 years ago.

Patrick Stewart appears once again as Professor Charles Xavier alongside Ian McKellen's Magneto, while James Marsden reprises his role as Cyclops.

Rebecca Romijn returns as Mystique, and Channing Tatum plays Gambit after appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Shuri (Letitia Wright) is back as the Black Panther after taking up the mantle in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She's accompanied by Winston Duke's M'Baku and several Wakandan warriors.

Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejía) and his cousin Namora (Mabel Cadena) also join the lineup.

Tom Hiddleston returns as Loki after the Disney+ series ended with the former God of Mischief taking responsibility for the multiverse's branching timelines.

Even a cast this big can't fit everyone. There's no sign of Hulk, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, Nick Fury, Deadpool, Wolverine, Captain Marvel or the Guardians of the Galaxy, despite all playing major roles elsewhere in the MCU.

Not every absence in the trailer means a character has been left out of the movie. Lewis Pullman's Sentry, Kelsey Grammer's Beast and Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler have all been confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, but don't appear in the first trailer.

Marvel has yet to confirm the film's full lineup, and has a long history of keeping major characters and cameos under wraps until release. But some stars have already confirmed they won't be back.

Scarlett Johansson ruled out returning after her character, Black Widow / Natasha Romanoff, died in Avengers: Endgame. She told Vanity Fair that Black Widow's story was "complete," adding: "I don't want to mess with that."

Meanwhile, original X-Men star Famke Janssen said Marvel had made a "mistake" by not asking her to reprise her role as Jean Grey.
